Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

Summary

This position reports to Atrenne’s Director of Operations

 

Position Description:

This position supports all Environmental, Health & Safety activities at the company, aimed at protecting employee safety, health and wellbeing, managing risks of workplace injury and illness and maintaining compliance with pertinent codes, standards and guidelines.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Oversee all aspects of site safety, health and environment including, but not limited to engagement with local authorities, worker training programs, permits compliance, OSHA, EPA, interface to global EHS team, reporting on and addressing workplace incidents, workplace inspections, PPE program, risk / hazard inspections, document / record creation, emergency response and preparedness. Specific duties include:

 

  1. Work directly with Operations, Facilities, Quality, Security, Human Resources and other functional areas, as well as global Celestica EHS team, to develop the EHS programs for the organization.
  2. Plan, develop, and conduct effective safety training for employees and contractors, including EHS related aspects of Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) and Hazard Communications.
  3. Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace through process safety reviews and job safety analysis.
  4. Conduct EHS audits, create reports, and collaborate with cross functional leaders to drive closure of audit findings.
  5. Conduct workplace inspections, investigating injuries / illnesses, looking for root cause. Take corrective actions to reduce workplace injuries and illnesses.
  6. Maintain knowledge of new regulations and standards as they are introduced and/or change within industry.
  7. Track, report, and communicate progress regarding EHS initiatives to Management Team.
  8. Perform risk assessment of all incoming new materials and manage/maintain the on-line Safety Data Sheet (SDS) platform.
  9. Manage and coordinate all hazardous/non-hazardous waste disposal programs.
  10. Coordinate all regulatory reporting (EPA, DEP, etc.).                  

Education and Experience:

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Environment Science, Industrial Hygiene, Health and Safety, or Engineering, Certified Safety Professional, with 3 – 5 years hands-on experience in a manu-facturing setting. Knowledge of forklift operations, chemicals (Hazard Communications), respirator use, wastewater treatment, water sampling, permitting/licenses.

 Job Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of and proven experience in OSHA and EPA compliance in a manufacturing setting.
  • Familiarity with other codes including building, electrical and fire codes.
  • Working knowledge of Quality Management System standards (i.e., ISO 9001/14001, AS9100).
  • Proven experience as an “influence” leader.
  • Proven EHS auditing experience.
  • Motivated self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.
  • Skilled problem solver, specifically related to EHS issues and 3rdparty audit findings.
  • Ability to multitask and collaborate with associates at all levels of the organization (up, down and across the organization, including parent company).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be physically active (lifting, standing, bending, reaching, etc.) and ability to lift to 25 lbs. occasionally and less weight frequently.

 This role requires on-site work and may have off shift hours at times to deal with issues or provide training/guidance to personnel.
