We are seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer to join our Quality Assurance team. This role ensures that products, materials, and services supplied by external vendors meet the company’s quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
The core duties of Supplier Quality Engineer involve a blend of auditing, problem-solving, and relationship management.
- Supplier Evaluation & Qualification: Researching, sourcing, and conducting audits (both initial qualification and ongoing surveillance) of potential and existing supplier facilities and quality management systems (QMS) to ensure compliance with standards under ISO 9001, AS9100.
- Problem Solving & Corrective Action: Investigating non-conformances, performing root cause analysis (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa diagrams), and managing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) with suppliers to eliminate recurrence of issues.
- Performance Monitoring: Developing, tracking, and reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics (e.g., defect rates, on-time delivery) to quantify supplier performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Product/Process Approval: Managing the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) or First Article Inspection (FAI) to ensure all supplied parts meet engineering specifications and are approved for use in production.
- Collaboration & Communication: Acting as a liaison between suppliers and internal engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure clear communication of technical requirements, drawing specifications and quality expectations.
- Continuous Improvement: Driving process improvements at supplier locations using methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma to enhance product quality and reduce waste.
- Risk Mitigation: Identifying and mitigating supply quality risks and supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) processes by ensuring supplier readiness.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or Quality preferred), Science, or a related technical field with 5 – 7 years of experience in supplier quality, quality assurance, or a manufacturing environment is required.
In-depth understanding of quality management systems (ISO 9001, AS9100), quality tools (FMEA, SPC, MSA, APQP, PPAP), and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, project management, and communication skills are essential for effective supplier relationship management and cross-functional collaboration.
In depth knowledge of PCB assembly process, IPC-A-610, J-STD-001 quality standards is highly desired for this role.
CERTIFICATIONS: Professional certifications, such as the ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certifications are advantageous.
COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Office products: Word, PowerPoint and Outlook along with good working knowledge of Excel. Internet and Project Management or other database software knowledge also required.
LICENSES: Must possess valid driver’s license and passport to travel to Suppliers.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists the Supervisor/Manager in training and supervising quality inspectors.
The target pay range for this role is $105,000 – 110,000 per year.
